Delivery price and timing will vary according to order time, order value and delivery distance. For example, there may be no delivery charge on a first order, or for orders over a certain $ value. Delivery may also be free within a certain area or distance from the dispatch address, or charged according to distance or size of the order.
Timing depends on stock availability and the delivery system used. An order may even be delivered before the end of the day by some stores, if it has been ordered early enough, ie.before their specified cut-off time. An estimated delivery time or date should always be supplied. This may be in the form of a time window, eg. “2 hours” or “before noon”.
The store may choose to keep in contact with you about your delivery, alternatively tracking may be provided by the courier or delivery service. This is usually in the form of an SMS or even a live map showing the exact location of the goods.
Check individual Delivery specifications for details at the time of ordering and shop carefully. You will be glad you selected Delivery for your shopping when your items arrive on time, safely and in perfect condition on your doorstep.
Using the Post
For smaller items and high value shopping, the best option may still be a postal option. Please be warned, however, that the postal system is experiencing major delays, due to the increased volume of items being posted at this time of Covid-19.
Usually, standard postal delivery can take anywhere from 1 to 8 working days. When even faster delivery is needed, consider paying a little more for the Express Post option. This often allows for receipt within 1 to 3 working days from date of shipping. Don't forget that public holidays and peak postage periods can affect the delivery time of your items, so allow a little longer for delivery at Christmas, Easter, Black Friday, etc.
Whereas some delivery methods may use freight or courier services, using the Australian postal system can be very cost-effective. Your items are delivered to the specified delivery address and may require a signature of acceptance on receipt. If nobody can accept the parcel, a card is left giving details of where and when the item can be collected. Often the store provides email or SMS tracking for your goods, as well, so you will know the location and status of your order.
It is good to note that when using a postal method of delivery, the store may ship in more than one parcel, depending on the origin and availability of your items, hence you may receive several parcels that make up your order. This is especially true if your online store makes use of different distribution centres.
Don't forget to request insurance on your postal item if it is of high value or importance - for the unlikely event that it gets damaged or goes missing. A good idea is to inspect your parcel thoroughly before acknowledging receipt of it, just incase. If you are unable to do this, you can sign 'not checked' or 'subject to checking' or 'stc' to retain your option to claim if it is later discovered that the items were damaged in transit.
Parcel lockers are a relatively new initiative and, where available, allow you 48 hours to collect your parcel. With a growing number of collection locations, parcel lockers are free to use and accessible 24/7. An email or SMS notification will be sent when your items are ready for collection from the parcel locker. These contain an access code to open the locker, making it a handy, secure alternative to doorstep delivery.
